AND SO IT BEGINS……!
(Vicki Feltman)
We had our first Brass and Woodwind rehearsal Wednesday!
Not everyone showed up, but we are hoping that changes as we continue. The more full sections we have attending, the better the outcome. Plus, those who showed up this week were introduced to two new members of the Visual team!
Contrary to rumors, these Wednesday practices are for ALL marchers, not just new marchers. We are learning new movements and warm-ups, and helping the new marchers with their technique as well as introducing them to the rest of the marching band family. Please let your section leaders know if you can’t make it. It will save them the time spent looking for you.
Just a reminder to all:
Bring your instrument and music
Bring money for dinner or a sack dinner
BRING A WATER BOTTLE FILLED WITH WATER!!!
WEAR A HAT!!! – we don’t need fried brains
WEAR SOCKS AND THICK SOLED ATHLETIC SHOES –
absolutely NO SANDALS
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SCRIP SALES
(Carrie Adelman and Susie Schmitz)
Beginning July 25th, scrip will be sold at the end of practice Wednesday nights 7:45 – 8:15pm. Look for us in the walkway near the parking lot closest to the band room. Bring your checkbooks. For quicker service, send us an email ahead of time and pick up your scrip at the table.
Your scrip purchases do add up! Also, scrip credits from competitions or travel go to your student scrip account, so make sure you check your balance periodically! Even if you don't buy scrip, you'll be surprised to find that you have scrip credit that you can apply toward your band fees. If you already wrote your check for marching band, save the cancelled check and request a reimbursement at the end of the year. Or, just apply scrip credit for any other music expenses that may come up.
Send your advance order or questions to the following new email: scrip@homestead-music.org.
GARAGE SALE PROCEEDS, NOT BAD….
(Vicki Feltman)
The good news is, we made about $600 last weekend, so $300 is going to the music boosters financial assistance fund.
The bad news is, I didn’t make a dent in the stuff in my house, so in another week we will repeat the process. July 21st-22nd, another garage sale with 50% proceeds going to the music boosters financial assistance fund! Sara is taking a PTO day next Friday to make sure I pack up everything this time. She’s a slave driver!
Thank you all for your great ideas regarding my next career. I am now mulling over the possibilities to see which best fits around our music department schedule. Stay tuned!

REMINDERS:
smart music updated with movement 2!
(Vicki Feltman)
Mr. Weingartner has extended the assignment expiration date so you should not run into issues accessing Movement 1 and 2 in SmartMusic.
Have you all gotten into SmartMusic? Are you having issues? Time to work them out!
Don’t panic if you haven’t seen the music. Your section leaders and section mates will help you thru it. You’ll all learn it together at these Wednesday practices.
But it would be to your advantage to get into SmartMusic and learn how it works!
Read the documents located in the music booster website to learn about SmartMusic and how to acquire it:
SmartMusic 2012 steps you thru the purchase and installing of the application.
SmartMusic Parent FAQ’s will answer the most common questions asked.

VOLUNTEER FOR SANTA CLARA VANGUARD BINGO TO EARN MONEY TOWARD BAND FEES
(Barb Edmonds)
Santa Clara Vanguard has opened their bingo volunteering calendar. This is a great way to "bank" money in your scrip account to pay for band expenses.
For each shift you volunteer, you will earn $40 toward your student’s scrip account. Money in your scrip account can be used toward paying any allowable Homestead Music program costs (Marching Band, Winter Percussion, Winter Guard, Choir, etc). Volunteers must be 18 yrs or older. They do not need to be a parent or relative of the student. They can be a friend working on behalf of the student.
If you are new to the program, please refer to the “Fundraising” section of the HHSMB website for details and for sign-up instructions (be sure to read all the information before signing-up):
http://homestead.schoolloop.com/blast100524
To register for Bingo times, please click the link below.

To ensure your scrip account is properly credited, please email Barb Edmonds (edmondsbarb@yahoo.com) and let her know the dates you actually work and the name of the student scrip account to credit.
If you have any questions, contact Barb Edmonds, edmondsbarb@yahoo.com.
FIELD SHOW T-SHIRTS/SWEATSHIRTS ALERT!
(Sylvia Gronovius)
Please be aware that if you want a field show t-shirt this year you will have to order it!
Last year’s free t-shirt was an exception because of the Macy’s Parade, this year we don’t have such a big and long trip.
SO, IF you want a t-shirt and/or sweatshirt get those orders in by August 6th to be able to pick them up at the potluck on August 18th!
There will be one more order chance after the potluck (if you’d like to see the shirt first) but that will be it!
And parents: order one for yourself too if you’re going to volunteer at the competitions/home games. It will be easier for the marchers to recognize you if they need help.
Keep those orders coming!!
[The order form can be found at http://hhs.fuhsd.org/forms, click on 2012 Field Show Shirt Order Form (.docx).]
