ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:  There are still a number of students who have not signed up to come in to be fitted.  Even if you are a returning marcher, uniform fittings are mandatory to make sure that last year’s uniform is not too short or too tight.

There are only two days left: Tuesday (August 14th) and Wednesday (August 15th).  If you have not already done so, please sign up at http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/1212345634104916028

Contact Angela Richards at angela.g.richards@gmail.com or at 408-891-1557 if you have any questions.

NO PRACTICE THURSDAY – GO TO THE MOVIES!

(Vicki Feltman)

Mr. Burn has cancelled practice Thursday to allow everyone to watch the special live simulcast of the DCI Quarterfinals Competition at the AMC theaters Cupertino Square.   Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the theater, or thru Fandango using the following url:

http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/event/dcibigloudlive9.aspx?gclid=CO7BsuXfybECFQQaQgodsAsAcQ

There is a $1.25 service charge when using the online purchase option.  Show starts at 3:30 pm and the competition runs about 5 hours.  Get there early, because Homestead is not the only band in the area watching the event, and seats go quickly.  See you there!

MEDICATIONS – BAND CAMP

(Vicki Feltman)

We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that all medication, inhalers, epipens, and emergency type paraphernalia be handed to Vicki Feltman Friday morning.  It will all be bagged and identified (or you can make our lives easier by bagging and writing your names and dosage on the bags).   Nurse Karen Isabelle, one of our Band Camp Coordinators, will also be our med dispenser during the weekend and at all competitions.

The reason we would like to hold the medications is simply for the safety of everyone involved.  With over 200 people sleeping in one humongous room with identical backpacks, suitcases, and duffels, it is very easy for someone to grab the wrong medication.  Pill bottles all look alike.  And then, you have those cute little students who think it’s fun to switch contents of bags.

Medications will be kept in a secured location at base camp under the ol’ oak tree.  We would prefer to have inhalers and epipens handy instead of having to run uphill to the gym and paw thru 200 bags, trying to find the one with your student’s emergency supplies.  What could be handled in a matter of seconds can turn into a nightmare.  You should try asking a student what their bag looks like when they can’t breathe.

Even though your student has permission to carry their medication with them, it does not happen.  They do not carry it to the field or rehearsal building when it’s time for them to march or hold indoor rehearsals.   Carrying medication or remembering to wear shorts with pockets to carry medication is the last thing on their minds.   It takes 10 minutes to walk QUICKLY from the gym to the rehearsal building.  When there is an emergency, 5 or 10 minutes is not an option.

Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you have any questions.

INSTRUMENT LOCKER CHECK OUT AVAILABLE SATURDAY AUGUST 18TH

(Vicki Feltman)

One of the advantages to being in marching band is first dibs on instrument lockers!

You will find a PURPLE instrument locker check out form taped to every locker available for check out.  Select your locker, take the form home to get it signed by your parents, and leave the completed form in the box marked ‘Mrs. Feltman’s Mail Box’ located in Mr. Burn’s office.

I will send an email with the lock combination.

These PURPLE instrument locker check out forms must be returned to me no later than Monday, August 20TH.  I will return the locker to the available pool on August 21ST if I don’t receive your signed paperwork.  No exceptions.

Please contact me at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you have any questions.

SCRIP

(Carrie Adelman)

EARN MONEY TOWARD YOUR BAND FEES
BUY SCRIP GIFT CARDS FOR GROCERIES AND BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING

Buy scrip gift cards from Music Boosters and use them like cash at the stores.  The great news is that you get 2.5% scrip credit for your purchases!  Keep buying scrip and build up your scrip credit.  At the end of the year, you can ask for a reimbursement of your band fees or simply apply the credit for next year!

Build up your scrip credit by using grocery store scrip at Safeway, Smart and Final, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Ranch 99 and Marina.  Also, use scrip at drug stores  like Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid, or use it to buy coffee at Starbucks and Peets.   If you're in a rush to feed students before practice, stock up on Subway, KFC, Quiznos, Chipotle, Pizza My Heart, Little Caesar's, or Panera.

If you're doing your back to school, remember we gift cards for JC Penney, Sears, Old Navy, Kohl's, Staples, Office Max, Best Buy ...and you can even buy computers online using Amazon scrip.  Look for scrip sales at the end of  Wednesday night practices.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SALES

Scrip will be sold at the end of practice Wednesday nights 7:45 – 8:15pm.  Look for us in the walkway near the parking lot closest to the band room.  Bring your checkbooks.  For quicker service, send us an email ahead of time and pick up your scrip at the table.

Send your advance order or questions to the following new email:  scrip@homestead-music.org.

(Carrie Adelman)

eScrip

If you get airline miles on your credit card, you can still get scrip credit toward your music fees.  Sign up with eScrip.com and name Homestead High School Music Boosters as one of the beneficiaries. Go towww.escrip.com and click on “Sign Up” – the HHSMB ID# is 137634941.  Register your credit cards, and your Safeway Club Card.  Once you have registered, e-mail Chuck McDowell at cpsmcd@aol.com with the name of the registered card holder and which student you want credited.  This is so he can credit the rebates to the correct student.  Relatives can also join eScrip and allocate their portion of the refund to your student's account -- as long as you give Chuck their names.

Then, just shop online through the eScrip online shopping mall at
http://shopping.escrip.com/.  You can access a wide array of merchants and use your credit card AND GET SCRIP CREDIT -- but you have to go through  the eScrip site/online mall.  HHS Music Boosters receives eScrip rebates quarterly and your student earns 60% of the rebates we receive.  The actual amount rebated to us from eScrip depends on what the merchant.
