Additional Beat the Heat Practice TOMORROW….
In addition to the music rehearsal scheduled Thursday morning 9-12, Mr. Burn expects to see everyone at the Beat the Heat practice (5-8 pm) in the evening.
Reminder ….Freshman (M-Z) Uniform Fittings TOMORROW….
Just a reminder that Mrs Edmonds and Mrs Ishizaki expect to see your bright shiny faces in the black box sometime between 12 pm and 4:45 pm today to get fitted for your uniform.
Fortunately, all you have to do is stand there like a zombie and have the band parents take care of most of the thinking.
Please remember to wear a tshirt, boxer shorts, and bring your marching shoes so measurements are correct. And checks… don’t forget your checks!
Please contact Mrs. Edmonds at 408-507-5532 by phone, since she will be in the black box and not in front of a computer, duh, if you have issues.
Change in fitting schedule for Monday!
Barb Edmonds and Audrey Ishizaki have decided to schedule the last Freshman (A-L) uniform fittings between 12 pm and 4:45 pm to eliminate conflicts with the Beat the Heat practice scheduled for Monday evening.
Barb and Audrey are in need of additional help during the Monday fitting. No sewing experience necessary! Requirements – ability to read and write. Some of the jobs available…handing out hats, handing out gloves, handing out uniforms, helping students try on pants and jackets. Sounds simple because it is… just what you do when you take your reluctant child shopping for a new suit.
So far, Barb and Audrey are the ONLY two who will be there on Monday, August 17th, the day dedicated to fitting freshmen with last names A-L. The odds are not good! Freshmen parents, it would be to your advantage to help Barb and Audrey get those uniforms for your students.
Contact Barb Edmonds at edmondsbarb@yahoo.com or 408-736-1934 or Audrey Ishizaki at aud@yahoo.com or 650-964-4054.

Band Camp Expenses from Barb Edmonds
Thanks so much for everyone's help. We couldn't do it without you.
If you purchased goods, drove a trailer etc and need reimbursement, please complete the attached reimbursement form. Drop the completed form and receipt in Vicki Feltman's box by Wed 8/19. I will pick them up, sign them and get them to David Haight for payment.
This will help us better understand all the costs associated with putting on the band camp. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. edmondsbarb@yahoo.com
Thanks, Barbara
Help Wanted… Rene Watkins
If you can help out in any of the following areas please contact me Rene Watkins (randersonwatkins@mac.com) or the contact person listed below for the activity you are interested in.
The Old Oak Tree/Bleachers Project—In the course of building our new athletic fields and stadium, we find that sadly an arborist has pronounced that our 250-year-old oak tree cannot be saved and must be removed because it has now become a potential hazard. In addition, the construction team will be removing the old stadium bleachers to make room for the new. Rather than simply tearing these things down and having them hauled away, Tim Brown is spearheading a project to turn the old bleachers and the historic oak tree into memorabilia. If you are at all nostalgic and are interested in contributing ideas or just want to be a part of this project please contact Tim Brown (brownfive@earthlink.net)
Tax Returns—We have a need for someone who has experience with corporate sales tax returns to prepare and file our state and federal returns. If you are interested please contact David Haight (dhaight885@aol.com).
Help! The Trash is Piling Up!—You may be unaware, but Homestead High School does not pay for custodial services in the months of July and August (before school starts). This means that during our summer marching band and colorguard practices, trash accumulates. We will be asking the students to clean up after themselves and put all the trash into large plastic bags, but because there are no trash pick up services during the summer, these bags will accumulate. We need parent volunteers to take these bags away and dump them so they will not accumulate and become a hazard. All you need to do is take a couple of the bags away with you when you come to pick up your child from practice. Any help you can give us in this area will be greatly appreciated!
Open Positions! We really need your help!—With the first football game fast approaching, we need volunteers for the following:
- Jamba Juice Coordinator—coordinates the ordering and transportation of the Jamba Juice to the football games. If you have any further questions about this assignment please contact Audrey Ishizaki (aud@yahoo.com).
- Potatoes Co-Chair—Baked potatoes are a popular item sold at the football games, and it is a big job to get everything organized so that things go smoothly from baking the potatoes to transporting them to the game to finally preparing and selling them. Dulce Monroy (monroy28@aol.com) needs a co-chair to help her coordinate things. Please contact her if you have any questions and can help out.
- Water (Parades) Coordinator—Our marching band and colorguard gets hot and thirsty as they represent Homestead High School during the parades we participate in. The coordinator organizes volunteers who will walk along with the band during parades and give the marchers water when there is a need. Please contact me, Rene Watkins (randersonwatkins@mac.com), if you are interested in this activity.
- General Concessions Coordinator—We have a desperate need for someone to head concessions for our football games. We have the leads for all of the activities (Tickets, Snack Shack, Espresso Bar, Potatoes, BBQ), but we need an overall coordinator to oversee the entire operation. If you are interested and want to know more about the job please contact Barbara Edmonds (edmondsbarb@yahoo.com).
Volunteer for Santa Clara Vanguard to earn money toward band fees
We’ve recently arranged for parents and adult family members and friends to volunteer at the Santa Clara Vanguard Bingo nights. For each night you volunteer, you will earn $40 toward your student’s scrip account (and additional $20 will go into the Booster general fund). Money in your scrip account can be used toward paying any allowable band costs.
The person volunteering must be 18 yrs or older. They do not need to be a parent or relative of the student. They can be a friend working on behalf of the student.
You can sign up for a bingo time slot via their on-line registration system. In August, they will open sign-ups for the Fall (Sept – Nov) (summer is already full). When sign-ups open, please register right away. The summer slots were filled within 1 week. We do not know when the Fall sign-ups will be available. Please check their website frequently.
IMPORTANT: If you do not show for a registered time slot or cancel within the allowable window, you are responsible to pay the $25.00 no show fee (charged by SC Vanguard).
In order to get proper credit for your time worked, you must:
- when you register, please be sure to indicate you are with the Homestead HS Music Boosters. There are other Homestead organizations that participate as well.
- you must notify the HHSMB bingo coordinator, Diane Cressler (longdogz@pobox.com). Let her know who is volunteering (names of each individual) and whose scrip account should be credited for the time worked.
For more information, please see the SCV Bingo information below or contact Wendy Fong (HHSMB) wendy_fong@msn.com or Barbara Edmonds (HHSMB) edmondsbarb@yahoo.com.
