ONE MORE TIME……SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY GAME, Sept 11th

Wear your green band shirts to school!!

3:00 p.m.  Tuba players and percussion, load truck at Homestead

The band room will be open until 5:15 p.m. to allow you to pick up your instruments.  The band room will be locked at 5:15 pm with no further access until after the game.  If you do not pick up your instrument before then, you will need to explain to Mr. Burn at 5:30 pm, why you aren’t prepared.

5:30 p.m. Full Band meets at Fremont HS in our "staging area" (see map, labeled “B”) near the small gym.  In addition to your instrument and pep music, please bring your gloves, shoebag with your pep shirt, shoes and black socks.  Please remember to wear a shirt with short sleeves (NO TANK TOPS).   Also, remember to wear your boxer shorts.  The uniform carts with your hats and garment bags will be out and ready when you arrive.
Your hair cannot be so long that it touches your collar.  Bring hair nets, hair pins, hair ties, etc. to put your hair up.  If you do not bring the right materials to keep your hair up, Mrs. Edmonds and Mrs. Ishizaki have these items for sale for $2.

Get in uniform; uniform carts will be set up outside, where everyone will change.  We will not have access to the gym facilities for this game.  Take care of any uniform issues before warm-ups!! Look for Mrs. Ishizaki and other uniform moms to help you.

6:30 p.m.  Warm up/Pep band music rehearsal

7:00 p.m. March into stadium -- Pre-game concert on the track

7:25 p.m. Traditional pre-game show

7:30 p.m. (approximately) - game begins.

  • During the game, the band sits in their sections in full uniform, and plays pep band music.
  • No eating or drinking, except water, while in uniform.
  • The entire band stands up when we play.
  • Four minutes before half-time the band prepares for the half-time show.
  • Half time: the band performs our first half time field show!
  • After the half-time show, you will go back to the uniform carts and change into pep band shirt and jeans.  Return your hat to its box, your marching shoes to the shoe bag, and your uniform jacket and pants (NEATLY HUNG) to the garment bag.  Hang the uniforms on the carts.
  • After changing into pep band uniform, you may buy BBQ food.  Pre-order is the way to go!
  • You must be back in the stands ready to play at the conclusion of the third quarter.
  • At the conclusion of the game, the band plays one or two more songs and is then dismissed. This will be sometime between 9pm and 10:30pm.
  • TAKE ALL YOUR STUFF HOME WITH YOU, leaving no personal property or garbage behind!  (Uniforms and hats stay on the carts.)
  •

Reminders:
Show up prepared and on time.
When the band is playing, everyone needs to be playing (not eating or talking).
You must be with your section (flutes, clarinets, altos, etc.) when in the stands.
Your uniform jacket needs to be on and zipped up during the first half of the game.
Pre-order tickets – you will find them in your hat boxes after half-time.  Tuba and Pit will find their tickets taped to the front of their uniform cart.  Color Guard pre-order tickets will be distributed by a colorguard parent.

We need volunteers for the following areas for this Friday’s (September 11) football game—Please let me know (randersonwatkins@mac.com) if you can help us out:

  • 4 more people needed to bake potatoes at Mountain View Buddhist Temple (10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.)
  • 1 more person needed for Potatoes Concessions (4:00-6:00 p.m.)
  • 1 more person needed for Potatoes Concessions (6:00-9:00 p.m.)
  • 2 more people needed for Snack Shack Concessions (5:00-7:30 p.m.)
  • 2-3 people for Recycling (5:00-7:30 p.m. 7:30-10:00 p.m.)
  • 2 more people needed for Truck Loading (starts at 3:00 p.m.)
  • We are in desperate need of someone to purchase 360 lbs (18 bags of ice) purchased at Smart Final and delivered to our Football Concessions at Fremont High School at around 3:30 p.m.  You will be reimbursed for the cost of the ice.  Please let me know (randersonwatkins@mac.com) as soon as you can if you can do this for us.

Back-to-School-Night Potato Concessions—Music Boosters has been asked to run the Back-to-School Night Potato Dinner Concessions, and since we usually sell somewhere in the order of 200 potatoes, we will need volunteers for the following duties: Baking Potatoes, Set Up (which starts at 3:00 p.m.), Serving, Delivering (to the classrooms of faculty and staff who pre-order), and Clean up.  We will be using an online volunteer service to make it easier for you to sign up.  Keep an eye out for the Volunteer Spot link in an upcoming email we will be sending out soon.  If you should have any problems accessing or using this site, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Hats and Head Coverings!—This is a reminder that all volunteers working with food concessions will need to wear a hat or other appropriate head covering.  We need to do this for health reasons.  You can either provide your own, or we can provide one for you.  Our concessions will be inspected at some point by a health inspector, so we want to make sure we are complying with the rules.

Concession Worker Family Pass Still Available!!

Just a reminder to all Music Booster volunteers; everyone must pay to get into the football games, volunteering or not.  Once again, Assistant Principal Tara Grande and the Athletic Boosters are offering Music Booster volunteers a chance to buy a special season pass to allow volunteers entry to the games at a discounted rate.  You must be a volunteer at concession, bbq, espresso bar, bleachers, etc., at some time during the game.  In other words, this is not available to families who only come to watch the game (or come just to watch the BAND).

The cost of the pass is $45.00.  It will admit 2 adults and school age children (younger than high school age) into all  Homestead “Home” games, as long as the cardholder is volunteering during the game.  The regular admission price to a home game is $6 per adult per game and there are 5 home games in the season.

Another option is to buy an Athletics Family Pass for $70, which will allow 2 adults and their children into all Homestead “Home” sports activities, so, if you have students in band who also compete in cross country or swim team or volleyball, the athletics pass might be your best bet.  Contact the ASB office to purchase a Sports pass.
The Concession Worker Family Pass will be available for purchase until Friday, October 9th.  Please contact Vicki Feltman at vfeltman@pacbell.net if you would like to buy one.

Back to School Baked Potato Pre-Order for Parents

Parents, the Music Boosters will be selling our famous baked potato meals on Wednesday, September 16th, from 4:30-6:15 pm, just before you head into class rooms for Back to School Night.

The meal will cost $7.00 and include a baked potato with all the toppings (choices include - butter, sour cream, green onions, cheese, bacon bits, chili), soda or coffee, and a cookie.

Quantities will be limited, so you can take a chance that a yummy potato is available that evening, OR, you can pre-order to guarantee your dinner will be waiting for you.  Just complete the Back to School Potato form, attach a check made payable to HHSMB, and place in the box marked ‘Mrs. Feltman’s Mailbox’ located in Mr. Burn’s office.  Last day to pre-order is Monday, September 14th.

Please contact Vicki Feltman at vfeltman@pacbell.net for more information.

Hotel Room mate requests are being taken

The Marching Band has 2 upcoming overnight trips in October and November, and I need to submit a rooming list to each hotel.

The first trip is to the Bands of America Competition in Santa Clarita from October 30-November 1, 2009.   We will be staying at the Embassy Suites in Valencia.  Some of our hotel rooms will have 1 King bed with a sofabed (for 4 people) and some will have 2 Double beds with a sofabed (for 6 people).

Our second overnight trip will be to the Western Band Association Competition in Fresno on November 21-22, 2009.  We will be staying at the Springhill Suites in Fresno.  The students will all have 2 Double beds with a sofabed (for 6 people).

Students can pair up with their friends and stay in the same room together.  Make sure that the friends all agree to share the same room.  There are no guarantees that everyone will get to stay together, but every effort will be made to accommodate roommate requests.  Those who do not sign up will be assigned their rooms.

Email both the Bands of America and Western Band Association rooming requests to me at Tomosada@comcast.net.  Please have only 1 person send in the request per room.  The requests will be filled in the order that they are received---1st come, 1st served.  Deadline is by September 30, 2009.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me at 408-737-1740.

Remember, for the BOA Competition, some rooms will be for 6 people and some rooms will be for 4 people.  At the WBA Competition, there will be 6 people in a room.
