Fremont Union High School District Marching Band Exposition
The FUHSD Marching Band Exposition is an annual event showcasing the talents of all five district high schools in a non-competitive venue. Each band performs twice- once for the audience and once for the other bands, who all sit together on the opposite side of the field. It’s an awe-inspiring sight when 5 marching bands with color guard fill up a bleacher.
Admission is $5 per person, with all proceeds split evenly 5 ways. Since this show benefits all the schools, even volunteers pay the entry fee.
Schedule for the day
Parents, please contact Mr. Burn immediately at john_burn@fuhsd.org if your student is missing this performance, or any performance or practice. These are all mandatory events that affect your student’s grade.
8:30 – 3:00 Full Band Rehearsal at Homestead
3:00 pm Tubas drums load truck
3:00-4:30 pm Dinner break – TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT HOME WITH YOU
The band room will be locked up as soon as the truck is loaded with no further access until after the expo. You will need to explain to Mr. Burn why you aren’t prepared at 4:30 if you show up without your things.
**** Band and colorguard members - get something to eat during this 90 minute break, because there will be no opportunity for you to eat again until you get out of uniform at 8:10.
4:30 pm Arrive at Fremont HS, get in uniform and warm-up
As usual, bring your gloves, shoe bag with CLEAN BLACK socks
and CLEAN marching shoes. Mrs. Feltman is getting too old to bend over to clean your shoes!! Please remember to wear a shirt with short sleeves (NO TANK TOPS). Also, remember to wear your boxer shorts.
5:50 pm ALL Bands in Back Stands
6:00 pm National Anthem
6:05 pm Monta Vista performs
6:30 pm Cupertino performs
6:55 pm Fremont performs
7:20 pm HOMESTEAD PERFORMS!!!
7:45 pm Lynbrook performs
8:10 pm Change out of uniforms
8:20 pm Percussion/tubas help load truck
9:00 pm Percussion/tubas meet at Homestead to unload truck
Parents, please note the times for truck loading and unloading, and equipment movement. We can always do with a few extra hands!
Volunteers Needed for the FUHSD Field Show
For those of you new to the district field show, the FUHSD marching bands get together on Saturday, October 3rd to perform their field shows for each other in a non-competitive venue. This gives us all an opportunity to perform in front of a very supportive audience. Marching students know just how complicated these routines are. Listen for their reactions to each others show.
Each year, one of the five marching bands gets all the profits from concessions for the night. This year, it’s Homestead’s turn. We will serve baked potatoes (we're so good at it!), nachos, espresso, and have the full snack shack running. We are still in need of help with clean-up.
Please sign up with the link below. This is great opportunity to raise additional funds for the music program. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Football Game, October 9th
Please contact Rene Watkins (randersonwatkins@mac.com) if you can help or have any questions about the following:
We have shortages in the following areas for our football concessions for the upcoming game on Friday, October 9th. This would be a great time to hear from those of you who have not yet volunteered. Football Concessions is the area where we have the greatest need for volunteers, and this would be a great time to get your volunteer hours in:
o 1 more person needed for potato baking at Mountain View Buddhist Temple (10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.)
o 1 more person needed for Potato Serving (5:30-7:30 p.m.)
o 3 more people needed for Potato Serving (7:30-10:00 p.m.)
o 2 more people needed for Tickets/Drinks (7:30-10:00 p.m.)
o 1 person needed for Jamba Juice (7:30-10:00 p.m.)
o 2 more people needed for Snack Shack (5:00-7:30 p.m.)
o 1 more person needed for Snack Shack (7:30-10:00 p.m.)
o 1 person for Recycling (7:30-10:00 p.m.)
o Someone to purchase and deliver ice for concessions at 3:30 p.m.
o 1 person to be the On Call Runner—This is a job you can do without even having to attend any of the football games! We cannot always anticipate exactly what our needs will be with each game, although we do our best. We have found that occasionally we need someone to run to a nearby store and pick up necessary items, such as extra ice, for example, if the weather turns out to be very hot like it was at the last game. You will most certainly be reimbursed for any purchases we ask you to make.
Football Game Concession Food Pre-order Deadline - October 7th
Hurry, get your forms in! The deadline to pre-order your food for the Friday, October 9, football game is Wednesday, October 7th (at the END of practice). Order forms received after the end of practice will not be fill, since once the total number of pre-order items is transmitted to the concession heads the numbers cannot be changed.
Forms: Grab a Concessions Pre-Order Form in the Band Room or go to the HHSMB website (http://homestead.schoolloop.com/mbmain ) and then just go to the Forms page. Complete the form and turn it in to Mrs. Winnie Lo at the end of Wednesday night practice (I will be in the stands at Fremont High School), or drop it in the box labeled Mrs. Feltman's File Box located in Mr. Burn's office.
Tickets: Tickets will be found inside of your hat boxes (after you change out of your uniforms). For Colorguard members, a parent in the Colorguard area will have your ticket. For tuba and front ensemble members, tickets will be on your uniform cart.
See details on the form or contact Winnie Lo at leolo9@yahoo.com or 408-733-4878 if you have any questions.
REMINDER*** LAST DAY TO SUBMIT REQUESTS FOR ROOMING LIST
The Marching Band has 2 upcoming overnight trips in October and November, and I need to submit a rooming list to each hotel.
The first trip is to the Bands of America Competition in Santa Clarita from October 30-November 1, 2009. We will be staying at the Embassy Suites in Valencia. Some of our hotel rooms will have 1 King bed with a sofabed (for 4 people) and some will have 2 Double beds with a sofabed (for 6 people).
Our second overnight trip will be to the Western Band Association Competition in Fresno on November 21-22, 2009. We will be staying at the Springhill Suites in Fresno. The students will all have 2 Double beds with a sofabed (for 6 people).
Students can pair up with their friends and stay in the same room together. Make sure that the friends all agree to share the same room. There are no guarantees that everyone will get to stay together, but every effort will be made to accommodate roommate requests. Those who do not sign up will be assigned their rooms.
Email both the Bands of America and Western Band Association rooming requests to Pat Tomosada at Tomosada@comcast.net. Please have only 1 person send in the request per room. The requests will be filled in the order that they are received---1st come, 1st served. Deadline is by September 30, 2009. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call Pat Tomosada at 408-737-1740.
Remember, for the BOA Competition, some rooms will be for 6 people and some rooms will be for 4 people. At the WBA Competition, there will be 6 people in a room.
IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT A ROOMING LIST, ROOMMATES WILL BE ASSIGNED.
Marching Band Field Show Meals for Volunteers
If you are planning to volunteer at every band competition, we are offering a meal plan for you to purchase. The cost is $36 for 6 meals and covers all 4 competitions. These are the same meals we are serving the Marching Band/Colorguard.

your eScrip account, just to ensure that all the information is current.

Save Those Safeway Receipts!!
Please pay attention to the bottom of your Safeway receipts! Every year,
eScrip/Safeway conducts a 10% Back-to-School program where 10% of the
purchase price of certain items support HHSMB when you use your registered
Club Card. The purchase period was between August 12th - September 15th.
It's ok if you didn't realize this, you can still benefit HHSMB! HERE'S
HOW: If you are already registered with eScrip, your 10% contribution will
be automatically donated to us. You're done! If you are not registered with
eScrip, there are 2 ways we can still earn: 1) Simply give me your Club Card
number! Your eligible purchases will be stored on your card and we can claim
the 10% rebate, OR 2) Register receipt tapes with redemption codes will
start to print on Sept 18 and continue through October 3rd. Turn in the
bottom portion of any one of the receipts to me and we can claim the rebate
(please do not turn in more than one). Be sure I receive your Club Card
number or register receipt tape before October 10th - the deadline for me to
enter them! I'd be happy to enter redemption codes from the receipts of
friends and relatives, too!
