HHSMB Blast - October 6

Another busy busy week… please read schedule carefully!!
 
Parents, please contact Mr. Burn immediately at john_burn@fuhsd.org  if your student is missing any performance or practice.  These are all mandatory events that affect your student’s grade.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRACTICE, 6-9 pm at FREMONT

SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY GAME, Oct 9th

 
Wear your green band shirts to school!!
 
3:00 p.m.  Tuba players and percussion, load truck at Homestead
 
The band room will be locked at 5:00 pm. Be sure to get your instrument before 5:00.
 
5:30 p.m. Full Band meets at Fremont HS in our "staging area" near the small gym.  In addition to your instrument, please bring your gloves, shoe bag with your pep shirt, CLEAN shoes and CLEAN BLACK socks.  Please remember to wear a shirt with short sleeves (NO TANK TOPS).   Also, remember to wear your boxer shorts.  The uniform carts with your hats and garment bags will be out and ready when you arrive.

Your hair cannot be so long that it touches your collar.  Bring hair nets, hair pins, hair ties, etc. to put your hair up.  If you do not bring the right materials to keep your hair up, Mrs. Edmonds and Mrs. Ishizaki have these items for sale for $2.
 
Get in uniform; uniform carts will be set up outside, where everyone will change.  Take care of any uniform issues before warm-ups!! Look for Mrs. Ishizaki and other uniform moms to help you.

6:00 p.m.  Warm up/Pep band music rehearsal w/Cupertino Middle School A Band!

7:00 p.m. March into stadium -- Pre-game concert on the track w/Cupertino Middle School A Band!

7:25 p.m. Traditional pre-game show

7:30 p.m. (approximately) - game begins.
 
Four minutes before half-time the band prepares for the half-time show.
 
Half time: the band performs our complete half time field show!

  • After the half-time show, you will go back to the uniform carts and change into pep band shirt and jeans.  Return your hat to its box, your marching shoes to the shoe bag, and your uniform jacket and pants (NEATLY HUNG) to the garment bag.  Hang the uniforms on the carts.
  • After changing into pep band uniform, you may buy BBQ food.  Pre-order is the way to go!
  • You must be back in the stands ready to play at the conclusion of the third quarter.
  • At the conclusion of the game, the band plays one or two more songs and is then dismissed. This will be sometime between 9pm and 10:30pm.
  • TAKE ALL YOUR STUFF HOME WITH YOU, leaving no personal property or garbage behind!  (Uniforms and hats stay on the carts.)
Saturday, October 10 – Cupertino Tournament of Bands
 
8:00 am Tubas meet at Homestead to help load truck
 
 All band members and Colorguard – take your instruments home Friday night, or make sure you pick up your instruments and equipment from the band room BEFORE 9:00 AM.
 
9:00 AM Pit Percussion and drum line will rehearse at Homestead (except for three students needed to play with the band in the parade).
 
9:45 am Meet at truck at Cupertino High School with your CLEAN instrument, hair supplies, shoe bag, gloves, CLEAN BLACK socks, CLEAN marching shoes. Homestead's truck will be along the back fence near the baseball diamond.  See the Band Locator Map on the Cupertino High School website for the exact location.  There are several maps on the Cupertino TOB website showing the parade route, designated areas for each band at CHS (the truck) and directions to Cupertino High School itself.  Go to their excellent website at: http://www.tinoband.org/
 
- Allow extra time to get to Cupertino High School.  Stevens Creek and Finch Ave will be closed to traffic at 9 am when the parade begins.  You’ll need to park at Cupertino Square (Vallco) near Sears, and walk to CHS with your shoe bag and instrument.  The sidewalks will be congested with parade spectators.

- Get in uniform.
- See band moms and solve any uniform issues before 10:15.
- Shoes and instrument should be neat and clean!! Bring TWO pairs of clean black socks, one pair for parade and the other for field show!! 
- You will be walking a fair distance in those shoes: apply band aids, extra socks or whatever to prevent blisters.
- Do not wear jewelry, of any kind.  No watches, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, etc.
- Make-up in subdued colors only.   If your hair is below your collar, get it under control so that it will stay up under the hat.  
10:15   Begin parade march warm up
11:00 Leave staging area
11:25 Step off time
12:30 Homestead in Competition area
12:35 Homestead in Percussion competition area
12:40 Homestead finishes parade at Cupertino HS. Load truck and put uniforms and hat box away neatly on uniform cart. Take shoe bags home to get another pair of CLEAN BLACK socks and to make sure your shoes are CLEAN.
2:30 Meet at Homestead HS field for full band rehearsal
5:30 Tubas and Percussion help load truck – Dinner Break
6:45 Arrive back at Cupertino HS – change into uniform begin field show warm up
8:55 Finish warm up – march to stadium
9:05 Homestead in Stand by area
9:15 Homestead performs 2059 A.D.!
9:30 Put uniforms and hat box away neatly on uniform cart – change into pep band clothes (green band shirt or the show shirt, band jacket and jeans)

9:45 Awards ceremony
10:15 Awards Ceremony ends – dismissed – take your own shoe bag and instruments home with you.

Parents, please note the times for truck loading and unloading, and equipment movement.  We can always do with a few extra hands!

Tournament of Bands Parade, Saturday October 10th—TOB is this coming Saturday, and we need 14 Parade Spritzers to walk along with the band during the parade to give them water as needed.  Please contact me if you can help!
 
 
Football Game Concession Food Pre-order Deadline - October 7th

Hurry, get your forms in!  The deadline to pre-order your food for the Friday, October 9, football game is this Wednesday, October 7th (at the END of practice).   Order forms received after the end of practice will not be fill, since once the total number of pre-order items is transmitted to the concession heads the numbers cannot be changed. 
 
Forms: Grab a Concessions Pre-Order Form in the Band Room or go to the HHSMB website (http://homestead.schoolloop.com/mbmain ) and then just go to the Forms page.  Complete the form and turn it in to Mrs. Winnie Lo at the end of Wednesday night practice (I will be in the stands at Fremont High School), or drop it in the box labeled Mrs. Feltman's File Box located in Mr. Burn's office.

Tickets: Tickets will be found inside of your hat boxes (after you change out of your uniforms).  For Colorguard members, a parent in the Colorguard area will have your ticket.  For tuba and front ensemble members, tickets will be on your uniform cart.

Vegetarian Meals for Competitions


If you require a vegetarian meal for the band competitions, please email me at Tomosada@comcast.net . (Note:  Correction to email address from previous Blast) I will have a limited number of vegetarian meals, but it is your responsibility to let me know in advance that you would like one.  If you do not respond and do not have a vegetarian meal, DO NOT COMPLAIN.  Deadline to respond is October 12, 2009.  Thank you---Pat Tomosada
 
Marching Band Field Show Meals for Volunteers

If you are planning to volunteer at every band competition, we are offering a meal plan for you to purchase.  The cost is $36 for 6 meals and covers all 4 competitions.  These are the same meals we are serving the Marching Band/Colorguard.
 
Make checks payable to HHSMB.  Forms may be returned to Vicki Feltman's box in Mr. Burn's office or mail to Pat Tomosada at 735 Lois Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94087.  Deadline has been extended to October 12, 2009.

Carpool to Santa Clarita and Fresno Competitions

I have had requests from parents wanting to know if there is anyone willing to carpool to Santa Clarita and Fresno.  Please contact me at Tomosada@comcast.net if you are planning to drive and can take extra people.  Thank you---Pat Tomosada

Reminder – Use those instrument lockers; put your things away

Effective Thursday, October 8th, any instrument left unattended after 6 pm in the band room, the foyer, or on the instrument locker room floor, will be locked up in a secure location only  accessible to Mr. Burn, Mr. Marra, and Dr. Morton.  You will have to ask them to retrieve your instruments and explain to them why your instrument was not put away.
