Wednesday Night practice 5-8 at Homestead!
Bring water, hat, sunscreen. A word from the Homestead Assistant Principals – no food, no gum, no drink other than water any where near the fields. The reason – they do not want spills on the field or asphalt because if ants arrive, they will take up residence under the fake grass and we’ll never get them out. Water only! Leave your juices and Gatorades in your bags.
Schedule for FIRST Football Game!
Our first football game will be on Friday, September 3rd. This will be Pep Band Only, meaning all marching band members are required to be there, EXCEPT front ensemble and color guard.
Marching band members should arrive at 6:30 pm at Cupertino High School (10100 Finch Ave, Cupertino). You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the game. DON’T FORGET YOUR INSTRUMENTS!!!
Meet near the basketball courts, which are in back of the pool and field house, before the athletic field (see Cupertino campus map).
The required uniform for the game will be green pep band shirts and blue jeans. Contact Mrs. Edmonds at edmondsbarb@yahoo.com or Mrs. Ishizaki at aud@yahoo.com if you need a green pep band shirt. There is no telling what the weather will be like, so it might be advisable to bring your band jacket or field show sweatshirt with you.
All football games and competitions are mandatory and count towards your grade. Please contact Mr. Burn at john_burn@fuhsd.org as soon as possible if you will not be in attendance (unless you are a member of front ensemble or color guard).
Special transportation for tubas and percussion
Mr. Baltazar and Mr. Barbano have graciously volunteered to transport tubas and drum line equipment (remember to bring your drum stands!) to Cupertino HS and back again after the game.
Be ready to load the horse trailer at 5:30 pm outside the band room. If you are not there, you will need to transport your own equipment to and from the game.
After the game, you are responsible for loading the trailer at Cupertino HS for the return trip, and you are also responsible for unloading the trailer when it gets back to Homestead.
Band Room open until 6 pm Friday for you to pick up your instrument
Just in case you forget to take your instrument home with you after school…. The band room will be open from 2:30 until 6 pm. The band room will be unavailable after 6, so don’t be late or you’ll have to explain to Mr. Burn and Mr. Weingartner why you don’t have your instrument.
The band room will be open again AFTER the game if you wish to drop off your instrument before going home. Don’t dawdle. As soon as the horse trailer is unloaded, the band room will be locked with no access until Tuesday when school starts.
Football Game Concession Food Pre-order Deadline - September 1st
Hurry, get your forms in! The deadline to pre-order your food for this Friday, the September 3rd football game is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 1st (at the END of practice). Order forms received after the Wednesday night practice will not be fill, since once the total number of pre-order items are transmitted to the concession heads the numbers cannot be changed.
Forms: Grab a Concessions Pre-Order Form in the Band Room or go to the HHSMB website (http://homestead.schoolloop.com/mbmain ) and then just go to the Forms page. Complete the form and turn it in to Mrs. Winnie Lo at the end of Wednesday night practice (I will be near the practice field), or drop it in the box labeled Mrs. Feltman's File Box located in Mr. Burn's office.
Tickets: Since you will be wearing pep clothes for this game, tickets will be passed out by your section leaders before halftime.
See details on the form or contact Winnie Lo at leolo9@yahoo.com or 408-733-4878 if you have any questions

Concession Worker Family Pass Still Available!!
Just a reminder to all Music Booster volunteers; everyone must pay to get into the football games, volunteering or not. Once again, Assistant Principal Tara Grande and the Athletic Boosters are offering Music Booster volunteers a chance to buy a special season pass to allow volunteers entry to the games at a discounted rate. You must be a volunteer at concession, bbq, espresso bar, bleachers, etc., at some time during the game. In other words, this is not available to families who only come to watch the game (or come just to watch the BAND).
The cost of the pass is $45.00. It will admit 2 adults and school age children younger than high school age, into all Homestead “Home” games, as long as the cardholder is volunteering during the game. The regular admission price to a home game is $6 per adult per game and there are 5 home games in the season.
Another option is to buy an Athletics Family Pass for $70, which will allow 2 adults and their children into all Homestead “Home” sports activities, so, if you have students in band who also compete in cross country or swim team or volleyball, the athletics pass might be your best bet.
Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com or Barb Edmonds at edmondsbarb@yahoo.com to purchase a Concession Work Family Pass. Contact the ASB office to purchase a Sports pass.
HHS Stadium Chair Orders
It isn’t too late to order your own HHS Stadium Chair. This is the patented top of the line “Stadium Chair” stadium seat… No more cold bleachers! Ours will be custom made with our school logo and Homestead Mustangs screened on a forest green chair. It can be yours for only $50.00! This is a perfect time to order a new chair with the marching season just starting! We are accepting pre-orders only. Please go to the website for the order form. due by September 10th.

REMINDER – WATER DONATIONS
Thank you to everyone who as donated cases of water. We have enough for maybe one competition.
And you’re probably wondering why on earth we would need a whole case of water per student for the season.
When your students come off the field after competition, or parade, they are hot and thirsty. They also don’t have time to spend waiting in line for a cup of water. In most cases, they need to grab a bottle to drink as they change out of their uniforms to get back to the stadium for awards. That, plus something to drink during meals and to drink on the bus on the way home, and on the bus going to competition after a morning of practice. If you add up all the different times we try to keep everyone hydrated, you can figure each student can go thru 5 bottles an event, times at least 7 field show competitions, exhibitions, parades, etc….
If you could donate, please drop off a case in the band room close to the white board.
Contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com for more information.
SCRIP ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MARY MANSIR!
I’ll be out of town from Wednesday morning until Tuesday afternoon. For all scrip needs, please contact Jenny Haight (she’ll have the main scrip box) 408-774-1918 or TheHaights@aol.com, or Lori Wong 650-964-2555 or Lori_Wong@yahoo.com. Jenny won’t be at HHS on Wednesday night, but will be available at other times. Thank you for your patience and support! Mary Mansir
The Rules
We want to start the year off on the right foot, so….
· Please remember, no food, no gum, no drinks (except water), in the music building. Mrs. Feltman does not care to clean up spilled soda on the carpet, from the top of the instrument lockers, or in back of doors, where cups are hidden. She also doesn’t care to clean up mounds of garbage stacked on top of the small garbage cans inside. LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE OUTSIDE, in the large garbage cans put there for your use! And did I mention the rats and cockroaches I’ve found in and around the building, happily enjoying the food you’ve left for them?
· Tuba players, thank you for putting your sousaphones back in your lockers. There isn’t enough floor space for anyone to leave their instruments out, especially when 140 chairs need to be set up for rehearsal.
· Once everyone gets their locker assignments, the same holds true in the instrument locker room. If you have a locker, use it! Having 180 pairs of feet tromping on your instrument won’t help you sound any better.
· Percussion, please remember to SHUT THE OUTSIDE DOORS when you leave the percussion studio. It is quite easy for someone to walk in and take things without anyone seeing them, since everyone is either in the band room or out on the field. Yes, there have been non-students who walk into the percussion studio from the sidewalk on Homestead Road.
· Practice rooms are for PRACTICING, not for eating lunch (see first rule above), playing cards, having a meeting. And raising the stands to block the windows in the practice rooms will definitely call attention to you, too.
Looking for your Marching Band Manual?
If you didn’t pick it up during the pot luck, then it’s still sitting in the band room.
Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com
