Our FIRST Public Performance!!  FUHSD Marching Band Exposition

The FUHSD Marching Band Exposition is an annual event showcasing the talents of all five district high schools in a non-competitive venue.  Each band performs twice- once for the audience and once for the other bands, who all sit together on the opposite side of the field.  It’s an awe-inspiring sight when 5 marching bands with color guard fill up a bleacher.

Admission is $5 per person, with all proceeds split evenly 5 ways.  Since this show benefits all the schools, even volunteers pay the entry fee.

The schedule for Saturday, September 25th:

8:30 am - 2:30 pm      Rehearsal at Homestead (there will be a one hour lunch break lunch break)

TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENTS HOME WITH YOU AFTER REHEARSAL!

Eat during this break because you will not be able to eat again until 8:30

4:30 pm                       Meet at Cupertino HS, get in uniform, warm up

The band room will be open until 3:45 p.m. to allow you to pick up your instruments if you did not heed the warning above.  The band room will be locked at 4:00 pm with no further access until after the expo.  If you do not pick up your instrument before then, you will need to explain to Mr. Burn at 4:30 pm, why you aren’t prepared.

In addition to your instrument, please remember to bring your gloves, shoe bag with your shoes and CREW LENGTH SOLIDBLACK socks (no designs, no Navy blue, no dark grey).  Please remember to wear a shirt with short sleeves (NO TANK TOPS).   Also, remember to wear your boxer shorts.  The uniform carts with your hats and garment bags will be out and ready when you arrive.

Your hair cannot be so long that it touches your collar.  Bring hair nets, hair pins, hair ties, etc. to put your hair up.  If you do not bring the right materials to keep your hair up, Mrs. Edmonds and Mrs. Ishizaki have these items for sale for $3.

Get in uniform; uniform carts will be set up outside, where everyone will change.  Take care of any uniform issues before warm-ups!! Look for Mrs. Ishizaki and other uniform moms to help you.

Uniforms, Pep Jackets Etc… from Uniform Mom Barb Edmonds

Since this is the first Marching Band event in uniform, here's a few reminders:

If you just got new shoes, be sure to try them on and see that they fit

If you have not received your shoes, see Barbara Edmonds at the end of Wed practice, in the band room

On Sat at CHS, bring your uniform shoes in your shoe bag (be sure the shoes are CLEAN)

Don't forget clean all-black socks (no patterns etc). They must be crew length or longer

Don't forget your gloves.  Flutes - be ready to cut the finger tips off

Hair - your hair must not touch the collar of your uniform.  If it does (or is close), you will need to pay for a hairnet or hair ties and put it up. We will have a few hairnets and ties available for purchase at CHS.

Wear a collar-less t-shirt under the uniform. Do not wear a pep shirt or polo-style shirt.  You will not need your pep shirt on Sat since you will not get out of uniform until after the event is over

Make-up must be kept to an absolute minimum and no earrings are allowed.

Pep Jackets (remaining Pep Shirts) - the order is not in yet but we are still hoping they'll be available by Sat morning.  If they are, I will distribute at practice on Sat.

If you have any uniform questions, feel free to contact Barbara Edmonds (edmondsbarb@yahoo.com) or Audrey Ishizaki (aud@yahoo.com)

VIDEO:  How to take care of your uniform

If you have questions on how to take care of your uniform, this video may help.  Remember there is a prize for all those who put away their uniform perfectly.  If you have questions on how to hang up your uniform, do not hesitate to ask your section leader or a uniform parent.

Homestead High School March-a-thon 2010 !

Homestead High School March-a-thon is being held Saturday, October 23 from 9AM to 11PM, starting at Homestead High School and culminating with the band's performance at the Gilroy Band Show.   The day will include a total of 10 hours of time with the band on a field marching, playing their instruments, or both at the same time.  Why?   To raise money so we can better afford to attend major competitions including the 2010 Fall Season shows, the Pacific Basin Music Festival in Hawaii for Juniors and Seniors AND the 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City!

Here are the details:

Student's Goal:  Each student is encouraged to participate and raise a minimum of $60 to cover expenses for travel and competition fees.  The target is to raise $12,000.  Donations are made to the Homestead High School Music Boosters (HHSMB).  HHSMB bylaws requires a percentage of the donation to go into the General Donations account to be used for HHSMB general operating purposes and the remaining funds will be shared and distributed evenly into the participatingstudents’ scrip accounts. HHSMB March-a-thon funds will be divided 33% General Donations and 67% to participating students.  Participating means collecting $60 or more in donations by November 12.  Late donations are welcome, but late funds will only be deposited into the General Donations account.  Students who are not able to attend the March-a-thon may still participate by collecting more than $60 in donations.  Some companies will match donations -http://homestead.schoolloop.com/mbfund#match and stock donations are welcome too.

A WORD FROM VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR EILEEN CHUN

We have a few more upcoming events that are in need of staffing.

The FUHD Field Show will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25th from 6:30-8:30pm at Cupertino HS. This is a showcase of our  5 district bands. We are in need of parents to help on the field to move our equipment around during the performances (moving the pit from one side of the field to the other so everyone gets to see both sides of the performance). We have 10 slots open. We also need 2 more people to help to load/unload the truck.

Band Practice Water. We need parents to help fill the coolers w/ice/water and move them to the field. We have no one signed up to help for the upcoming practices. If you can help out at 11am on practice days, please sign up on the volunteer site so we know who to expect. With enough hands, it will take less than a half hour to accomplish.

We have a THURSDAY football game coming up on September 30th! We are in need of many hands. If you are unsure of what a position is, please feel free to email me and I can clarify it for you. Also a reminder to all volunteers to please contact me if they are unable to perform their shift. We were caught significantly short handed at our previous game. If the lines seem long, please feel free to step up to help during a game. THANKS!

We are in need of an insurance person -  Someone with a knowledge of/interest in insurance who can do some research and make some recommendations to the Boosters about what kind of insurance coverage we currently have (e.g., through the District) and what kind of additional coverage we might need.  In particular, insurance for our large trailer, things being transported in the trailer (uniforms, instruments), our golf carts, the smaller trailers, etc.  David Haight and I can provide more specifics, but this is the general kinds of things we want this person to look into for us.
