SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9 – CUPERTINO TOURNAMENT OF BANDS

Parents, please contact Mr. Burn immediately at john_burn@fuhsd.org  if your student is missing this performance, or any performance or practice.  These are all mandatory events that affect your student’s grade.

8:00 am Tubas and percussion meet at Homestead to help load truck

All band members and Colorguard – take your instruments home Friday night, or make sure you pick up your instruments and equipment from the band room BEFORE 9:00 AM.  The band room will be locked up at 9 am sharp with no further access until after the parade.

9:30 am Meet at truck at Cupertino High School with your CLEAN instrument, hair supplies, shoe bag, gloves, CLEAN BLACK socks, CLEAN marching shoes – Homestead's truck will be along the back fence near the baseball diamond, the same place where we met for the field show expo.  There are several maps on the Cupertino TOB website showing the parade route, designated areas for each band at CHS (the truck) and directions to Cupertino High School itself.  Go to their excellent website at: http://www.tinoband.org/

Allow extra time to get to Cupertino High School.  Stevens Creek and Finch Ave will be closed to traffic at 9 am when the parade begins.  You’ll need to park at Cupertino Square (Vallco) near Sears, and walk to CHS with your shoe bag and instrument.  The sidewalks will be congested with parade spectators.

- Get in uniform.
- See band moms and solve any uniform issues before 10:00

- Shoes and instrument should be neat and clean!! Bring TWO pairs of clean black socks, one pair for parade and the other for field show!!
- You will be walking a fair distance in those shoes: apply band aids, extra socks or whatever to prevent blisters.

- Do not wear jewelry, of any kind.  No watches, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, etc.

A WORD FROM VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR EILEEN CHUN

We need staffing for TOB in the following areas:

Warmup water cups - We need parents to help fill cups of water to serve to students during their morning parade warmup, and either the same or other parents to help do the same thing during the field show warmup in the evening.    Please meet at Cupertino HS on the basketball court at 10 AM Saturday, October 9th, and/or at 8 pm near our truck parked along the back fence at CHS.   This task requires us to fill 5 oz cups of water, one cup per student.  We limit the amount of water they drink after they get into uniform because it takes so much time and energy to get out of uniform to go to the bathroom and there isn’t enough time to have that happen.  Plus getting out of uniform also breaks their focus on the performance to come.  They can drink more once they are out of uniform, after the performance.

PIT crew -  We need parents to help push instruments onto the field and off once the performance is done.  Competition is timed.  We need to set up as quickly as possible or we get penalized for running over our allotted time.  Front ensemble students know exactly where the instrument should be placed.  All we need to do is follow them and put the instrument where they direct us.  Yes, it’s hard taking directions from someone younger than you, but I think you can handle it for a few minutes for the good of the competition.  J  Plus, our students are very polite and courteous, as well as grateful for all the help.  The front ensemble usually warms up in the CHS  Quad area.  Meet wherever they are at 8:45 pm Saturday, to be ready to move them when practice is done.

Uniform Helper – at least one more person is needed to help students get into uniform and to make sure they are dressed appropriately (black socks, clean shoes, no jewelry, etc.)  Meet at the truck at 7 pm.

These and other volunteer needs are posted on the volunteer website: http://hhsmbvolunteer.comule.com. User:HHSMB, password:volunteer.

Please contact volunteer coordinator Eileen Chun at hhsmbvolunteer@gmail.com if you have any questions.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS ARE ON SALE NOW UNTIL SATURDAY PRACTICE ON NOVEMBER 13, 2010

Entertainment books are coupon books with great discounts to stores, restaurants, entertainment, etc. This year the Entertainment books are $30 (cash or check made out to HHSMB). If music boosters can sell over 500 books, our profit will be $15 per book with one half going into the general fund and the other half into your student's escrip account (our profit is only $12 if we sell between 100 - 499 books). I will be selling the books at the end of Wednesday and Saturday marching band practices at the band tree outside the band room - near the E-scrip table and at the football games in the stands with the band OR you can call OR e-mail me for purchase. You can also order other areas books (i.e. books for the Los Angeles area) online at www.entertainment.com/support click on "don't know account number" and enter Homestead High School Band in "name contains". If you want to encourage your student to raise some of their "own" money you can have some books to sell to your neighbors and family. If you have co-workers who made you buy cookies, popcorn, or wrapping paper, take some books to sell at work. Thanks for supporting our fundraising efforts. This particular fund raiser runs from the beginning of school until Saturday practice on November 13, 2010.
