IN THIS BLAST:

·         PARENTS – COME TO THE HOLIDAY POT LUCK!

·         ABOUT THOSE MISSING LOCKS

  • SCHEDULE FOR WINTER CONCERTS Ç PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE
  • SHOE BAGS AND BAND JACKETS, LOST AND FOUND; ALL GONE AFTER DEC 14TH
  •

PARENTS – COME TO THE HOLIDAY POT LUCK!

sent a special blast to parents last night to make sure you all had the details about the potluck Sunday.  JoAnn is getting nervous because there haven’t been too many people signing up to bring food.  Hopefully you’ll all bring something to share – my shrimp cocktail won’t last long!

Mr. Burn and Mr. Weingartner will be cruising the food table, too.  Come rub elbows with them before they scarf it all down.

Tim will have one of his extra special video slide shows playing and if anyone is interested I can share a few of the pics I took in NYC  on my nifty cell phone (who knew a phone could take such great photos??)

For those new to this annual phenom, you don’t have to dress up, you don’t have to bring anything fancy.  Just bring yourselves.  Enjoy the company of other ADULTS and partake in adult conversations (you know… any sentence that doesn’t include the words DON’T, DIDN’T I TELL YOU…., STOP THAT…TIMEOUT….ARE YOU LISTENING…oh.  That last one can apply to husbands, so let’s strike that one!)

It’s a time to celebrate the fact that we survived another marching season!!  Join us!

ABOUT THOSE MISSING LOCKS

Last week, someone decided it would be funny to switch padlocks on instrument lockers,  and snap  them shut so locker owners couldn’t get to their instruments.  Mr. Weingartner was forced to unlock all the lockers.  Part of the blame for the wasted time and effort to unlock lockers and match the locks with the right locker (the locker numbers on the backs of locks were ripped off or switched between locks, too) lies at the feet of the immature student(s) who took advantage of the situation.  The rest of the blame belongs to those students who left their locks either hanging open on their locker doors or laying in their lockers.

We are now confiscating any lock found hanging open on lockers or found open and unattended in lockers.  Students can get them back from  me with a warning this time.  If I find those locks hanging unlocked again, students will need to pay 50 cents to have their lock returned.

Students aren’t being asked to lock their locker doors shut.  All we want is to make sure the locks are snapped shut on the lock hasp so it can’t be taken by someone else.

Thursday Concert Rehearsal Schedule

Please take note of what time students are supposed to be at rehearsals on Thursday!

PLEASE REMEMBER:

  • All concerts are mandatory and students are expected to participate.  Parentsmust let Mr. Burn know IN WRITING if students will not be attending.
  • All students and members of the audience are expected to arrive before the concert begins and stay for the entire concert.  It is impolite and disruptive to other groups for you to leave in the middle of a performance.
  • The following is the appropriate concert attire:

·         At formal performances such as adjudicated festivals and formal concerts, students are to wear the following:

o        Boys:

§         Black dress shoes, dark socks, black pants (no jeans), white button-up collared shirt, black tie and black sport coat. If a coat is unavailable, a black sweater is ok, but no sweatshirts or black shirts please.

  • Girls:
    • Preferred: Long black dress with shoulders covered, black hose and shoes.
    • Ok: Black skirt knee length or longer, or black dress pants, with black top with shoulders covered, black hose and shoes.
    • Not Ok: T-shirts, sweatshirts, or tennis shoes.
    • Rule of thumb for girls’ formal concert attire: the less skin showing, the better.

County Honor Band Applications

The Santa Clara County Honor Band is comprised of the most advanced band students from over 20 high schools in our county. Homestead has a long reputation of being very well represented in this band and students are encouraged to participate. The audition date is Friday, December  10th. Interested students should see Mr. Burn and Mr. Marra for audition details and application form.

Shoe Bags and Band Jackets, Lost and Found; all gone after Dec 13th

Please remember, you will use your shoe bags and band jackets for your entire marching band career; you do not buy new ones each year.

We plan on making a clean sweep of the band room Monday Dec. 13th

Lost and found items will be taken to Good Will.

Any shoe bags and band jackets left in the band room will be removed and stored, as grungy and dirty as they are.  We will email your parents to let them know we have them, and that it will cost $5 to get them back.

Contact Vicki Feltman at vfeltman@pacbell.net if you have any questions.
