HELP NEEDED TO BREAK DOWN UNIFORMS FOR CLEANING

We have a late start this year, but we are finally ready to prep the uniforms to be sent to the cleaners.  This effort will occur this Thursday, March 10th, from 6 – 9 pm in the black box.

Job requirements – if you have picked your students’ clothing off their bedroom floors and hung them up, you’ve got the requisite skills for this volunteer opportunity.

We need you to take the uniforms off their hangers, pile jackets in one area and pants in a separate pile.  It’s a tedious job, but someone has to do it.

Parents of incoming freshmen, this is a great opportunity to meet a few of our experienced parent volunteers.  And you get to meet  our uniform moms, Barb Edmonds and Audrey Ishizaki, who know everything about all things.

Please contact Barb at edmondsbarb@yahoo.com  if you have questions.

DRUM MAJOR WORKSHOPS

Drum Major Workshops given by our fantastic drum majors, Madeena Siddiqui, Jon Wong, and Diveesh Singh will start Wednesday, March 16th at 3:20pm in the band room. Any student interested in being a drum major candidate is highly encouraged to attend these sessions.

Please contact Madeena at  madeena93@yahoo.com;   Jon at sirjoniv@yahoo.com  ; and Diveesh at diveesh@gmail.com

IN CASE YOU MISSED THE BAND CAMP DATE ANNOUNCEMENT…..

Band camp will be held at the Athenian School in Danville again, Friday August 5th thru Sunday August 7th.  New Marcher practice, Student Leader Training, and Student Leader uniform fittings will take place that first week of August.

Mark your calendars and schedule your vacations to occur before August!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HONOR SOMEONE SPECIAL?

Each spring, Homestead High School's PTSA honors individuals from our community

for outstanding service to our students and school.  They are interested in honoring

people who work quietly behind the scenes, and people with a history of significant

volunteer contributions.

Please provide the following information about the person you nominate:

Name; PSTA or HHSMB positions/offices this person has held; involvement at

other schools as well as the school district; involvement in community and/or religious

organizations.

Simply write out your nomination including your name and phone number and either email it to Asha Ramdas at asha.ramdas@gmail.com or submit your nomination the PTSA mailbox in the school office.

Note: Nomination deadline is March 31, 2011.

Contributions will be made to the California State HSA program in each recipient's name. From this fund, scholarships are granted to qualified students who wish to continue their education beyond high school. Honorees will also be invited to a recognition dinner with other recipients from FUHSD and CUSD in May.

LUCKY SHARES AND NOB HILL QUALITY OF LIFE CARDS

Do you shop at Lucky or Nob Hill? Would you like to support the HHS Music Department at NO COST TO YOU? Order a Lucky SHARES Card or Quality of Life card, and use it whenever you're there! You can order additional cards for family members and friends! Contact me if you're interested (Mary Mansir at mfmansir@sbcglobal.net).

DO YOU HAVE AN INCOMING OR CONTINUING BAND STUDENT?

Would you like to defray some of those upcoming Music Department costs?

Scrip is the answer!  Buy scrip from HHSMB and earn money (3% of most purchases) for your student's Scrip account!  We have a wide variety of Scrip on hand, and can order Scrip from many more merchants!

Do you have a graduating senior? You can choose to put the proceeds into your student's account, OR The Student Aid Fund - used to help those who need assistance (This fund currently has $137 in it. That won't go very far!).

You can purchase Scrip from Mary Mansir, Jenny Haight or Lori Wong. Contact them by email or phone, even throughout school breaks!  Scrip order forms are always available in the band and choir rooms, or can be downloaded from our web-site at http://www.hhs.fuhsd.org/mbfund#SCRIP.  After you've filled out the form, please attach a check and turn it into the available envelope in either the band or choir room, or to Mary, Jenny or Lori.  Mary also sells Scrip 2:05pm - 3:30pm every Friday afternoon, in the band room. You can contact Mary with your order at mfmansir@sbcglobal.net or (408)245-2218, Jenny at  thehaights@aol.com (408)774-1918 or Lori at Lori_Wong@yahoo.com or (650)964-2555.   Your order will be filled as soon as the scrip is available!  You can choose to have Mr. Burn or Dr. Morton deliver your Scrip to your student during class, or make other arrangements with one of our scrip people. For special orders, there may be a 2 -3 week delay.  Thank you for supporting our outstanding, award winning students!
