FIRST SUMMER MARCHING BAND PRACTICE WEDNESDAY, JULY 6TH

Who: All marching band students (Yes, including incoming Freshmen)

What: Our first Wednesday night Beat the Heat Marching/Music Practice session

Where: Homestead High School Band Room

When: 5-9 pm

Why: To get everyone up to speed on the fantastical field show and Macy’s music!  To get those marching muscles in shape!  To meet and greet incoming band students and returning old pros.  To see if Mr. Weingartner has grown anymore.  To find out if Mr. Burn can talk!

Bring your instruments, a hat, sunscreen, WATER BOTTLE, music, WATER BOTTLE, and lest we forget, WATER BOTTLE.  Where THICK SOLED athletic shoes.  And SOCKS.  The artificial turf is hot (not warm).  It will radiate thru the bottom of thin soled shoes.  Wear SOCKS; we can’t afford blisters forming from the friction between hot sweaty shoes and bare sweaty feet.

Students should try to attend as many as they can.  There will be music and marching rehearsals, where students will learn the basics of marching and hear what the music will sound like when the group plays together.

These sessions are stand alone, so if a student misses one, they will be able to catch on the next time.  But Macy’s needs a status and a video of our routine early in the season,   and we need to be at our best.

Please contact Vicki Feltman at Vicki.feltman@gmail.com if you have any questions.

BAND CAMP IS COMING SOON– AUGUST 5 TO 7!

Band Camp is an important kick-off to the Marching Band season. Each year all new and returning marchers (includes pit percussion, colorguard and field marchers) gather for a weekend away.  They get to know one another as well as begin to learn the new show music and drill.  There are two ways you, parents, can help to make band camp a success: 1.  We need donations of snack goodies for 250 famished kids.  The Athenian School is contracted to provide regular hot meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner).  Parents provide the rest of the refreshments– this includes all snacks at every break.  We are asking for donations of brownies, cookies, homemade breads (banana, pumpkin…), salty crackers (Cheez-Its, Goldfish, Ritz… no pretzels please!), and LOTS of fruit.  Help us serve those with food allergies… NO NUTS PLEASE! 2.  We need help at the Athenian School with set-up, break down, snack prep, chaperoning,… To sign up to donate food items and/or to help, please go to the Volunteer Spot link to select what you will provide.  Enter your e-mail address to access the calendar.
