NEW NEWS:
CONGRATULATIONS HOMESTEAD WINTER GUARD
(Ken and Kristen Nelsen)
Our Winter Guard team won first place in last weekend's first CCGC competition of the year. Congratulations on a great start to the season!
This competition was hosted by Homestead. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their tremendous support in pulling off this competition. Thank you to all of our dedicated band and winter guard parent volunteers, our great music department staff, the HHSMB board & alumni parents who are always willing to pitch in and help. We've set a high standard for the rest of the competitions!
The Winter Guard's next competition is on Saturday, February 4th at Amador Valley High School.
EXCHANGE CONCERTS NEXT WEEK – TWO OF THEM!!
(Vicki Feltman)
Double the fun and music!! This year, Homestead will host TWO nights of Exchange Concerts!
Wednesday, February 1st, Fremont High School AND Lynbrook High School will be our guests, performing with our Concert Band and Symphonic Band.
Please note, the Wednesday concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Our Homestead Concert Band leads off the evening, first on stage at 6:30 pm.
They will be followed by the Fremont Concert Band, Lynbrook Concert Band, Fremont Symphonic Band, Lynbrook Symphonic Band, and ending with the Homestead Symphonic Band.
Students from all three school sites will mingle after the concert, enjoying the desserts supplied by you, our Homestead families.
Thursday, February 2nd, the Los Gatos High School Orchestra, directed by Mr. Marra, will be our guest, performing with our Orchestra. We will also feature alumnus Paul Hyun, cello soloist. The concert starts at 7:30.
MESSAGE TO STUDENTS ATTENDING EXCHANGE CONCERTS
(Vicki Feltman)
For Wednesday, February 1st:
5:30pm – Homestead Concert Band and Symphonic Band arrive, IN CONCERT ATTIRE, with desserts to share with Fremont and Lynbrook guests. Drop off your desserts in the practice room. A booster parent will be waiting for your goodies.
For Thursday, February 2nd:
5 pm - Homestead rehearsal
5:30-6pm - Combined rehearsal
6 pm – Pizza dinner
PLEASE REMEMBER:
All concerts are mandatory and students are expected to participate. Parents must let Mr. Burn know IN WRITING if students will not be attending.
All students and members of the audience are expected to arrive before the concert begins and stay for the entire concert. It is impolite and disruptive to other groups for you to leave in the middle of a performance.
The following is appropriate concert attire:
Boys:
- Black dress shoes, dark socks, black pants (no jeans), white button-up collared shirt, black tie and black sport coat. If a coat is unavailable, a black sweater is ok, but no sweatshirts or black shirts please.
Girls:
- Preferred: Long black dress with shoulders covered, black hose and shoes.
- Ok: Black skirt knee length or longer, or black dress pants, with black top with shoulders covered, black hose and shoes.
- Not Ok: T-shirts, sweatshirts, or tennis shoes.
- Rule of thumb for girls’ formal concert attire: the less skin showing, the better.
DESSERT & VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR EXCHANGE CONCERTS
(Vicki Feltman)
For Wednesday, February 1st:
We’ll need 700 servings of dessert plus a few people to help with the following tasks:
5:30 pm: At least one person to receive desserts from students as they arrive for rehearsal in the practice room..
6:00 pm: A few helpers to move the desserts to the cafeteria and set up for the dessert social.
8:30-9 pm: Keep dessert tables stocked.
9 pm: Help clean up
For Thursday, February 2nd:
We will do a pizza dinner. For this event, we need people to help set up, serve pizza and clean up (5:30pm – 7:15pm).
Please log on to our volunteer website to sign up to help out at these events at: http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/962345632561568076.

Attention current music students and families…. We want to make sure we reach every student who might be interested in registering for Band, Color Guard, Choir, or Orchestra in the Spring, incoming freshman and current non-music students alike. If you know of any students thinking about it, please forward this information to them. We want to make sure they are included in all our communications.
