Queridos Lectores,

Welcome to my web page congratulations on taking Spanish!  Many of you are taking this class because it’s required, but I hope by the end of the year you also decide you actually like learning  Spanish will take it to the next level.  If you truly want to be bilingual, you need to take Spanish all four years study abroad for a year in college.  Knowing Spanish will help you in whichever career path you decide to pursue, will allow you to converse with a lot more people will make your travel experiences much more enjoyable.

How am I qualified to teach Spanish?  I hold a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from San Francisco State University.  I spent a year in Seville, Spain studying at the Universidad de Sevilla and  liked it so much I stayed another year worked as a bartender.   I hung out and  absorbed  the culture in Southern Spain.  I then returned to the states and  received a bilingual credential through Chico State University.  After completing my credential I returned to the Bay Area and  got a job teaching at Homestead High School.  I actually grew up in this school district and am a graduate of Monta Vista High School.  I have been teaching here for twenty years and absolutely love it!

As far as my personal life goes, I am happily married have two small children that keep me very busy.  Their names are Mia Blake and they are 9 and 11years old.  When not hanging out / playing with my kids, I enjoy hiking, yoga, mountain biking, reading, cooking, skiing, and watching independent films.  I also love to travel can’t wait to get on an airplane again!  I especially love traveling to places like Mexico, Costa Rica and Belize where I can explore both the ocean the tropical rain forest.

You will soon find that I am very young at heart, very hyper active, sarcastic and a bit clumsy and goofy.  I also have a pretty serious Starbucks and dark chocolate habit.  In class I teach the entire period and simply ask that you be mentally present, positive participate fully in all activities.  I may seem pretty intense and I talk pretty loudly and fast but I love Spanish want you to learn it!  Come into tutorial often if you need help – I don’t bite!

Some helpful documents to refer to in the lockers are the curriculum map, tips for success, class syllabus and Quiz / Test formats.  These explain what I teach and in what order and  what tests usually look like.  Hope this information helps!  If you feel you need more practice than I am giving you in class, there are various websites with free online quizzes , etc.  One is,  another is,  and finally there is

I look forward to working with you this year!
