  •  Plan to take ACT with Writing/SAT Reasoning Tests and/or SAT Subject Tests in the spring. Sign up to take FREE practice tests available on the PTSA website.  Most colleges and universities accept both the ACT and SAT Reasoning scores. The new SAT will become similar to the ACT test. Yet, students are recommended to take both ACT and SAT Practice Test to find out which test they feel more comfortable with and perform best. There are about sixty colleges and universities that are test optional. Go to If you are in our school’s Free or Reduced Lunch program, you might be eligible for fee waiver, please see Mrs. Lund or Ms. Deatherage in the Guidance Office.

  • Plan to work on “Brag Sheet” and “Mustang Resume”. You will find this under the About Me tab on Naviance

All Students

  • Plan ahead for summer activities. Summer internship information is available on “School Loop”. Application deadlines are coming up soon.

  • Plan to visit college campuses in winter, spring and summer breaks. Try to visit when school is in session to get the feel of the campus. Call ahead to schedule tours or visits with admissions officers. Arrange to stay overnight if possible. UC Irvine, and UC Riverside, Wellesley, MIT, and many others colleges and universities are offering such programs. Before you go, explore the college website. Plan to visit six to seven college campuses. Select UC and CSU as well as private independent colleges. Each school has its own “personality”. You might want to consider local colleges first, so you know what to ask and what to look for before you make a long-distance visit.

    • Independent – Santa Clara U, Sanford U, Menlo College, Notre Dame de Namur U, Mills (Women), St. Mary’s College, Dominican U, and University of the Pacific

    • UC – Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and Merced

    • CSU – San Jose State, San Francisco State, Cal State East Bay, and Cal Poly SLO

    • Community Colleges – DeAnza, Foothill, West Valley, Mission, San Jose City, Canada and San Mateo City College
