Dear Parents,

In connection with our ongoing support of student mental wellness and pursuant to Education Code 215, as added by Assembly Bill 2246, the District is adding supports to our practice addressing student suicide prevention and intervention. We are also continuing the third year of our partnership with El Camino Hospital in connection with this effort.

For students, Dr. Glenn Teeter, who directs the Intensive Outpatient Program ASPIRE, has developed a presentation that will be delivered in an assembly across a 7-period day. This will occur at Cupertino High School on Thursday, March 8. The content of the presentation will include a strong message that suicide is preventable, information about the risk factors and warning signs, and a model for helping. The presentation will conclude by providing resources on how to get help for oneself or others. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, mental health professionals will be on campus to provide support. A copy of the presentation and community resources will be sent to all parents following the assembly day.

On Monday, March 5, in connection with the student assemblies on March 8, Dr. Teeter along with Dr. Kelly Troiano will present an evening for parents designed to continue to bring awareness and education to the community on teen mental wellness. Topics that will be explored are the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, suicide prevention education, opportunities to communicate in a healthy way with our teens, insights on how your primary care doctor can support your family, and most importantly, knowing when and how to reach out for help. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.

Registration required. Seating is limited. Call 800-216-5556 or visit www.elcaminohospital.org/healthymindteens

Join us on Monday, March 5 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at CHS in the Library as we continue the conversation on teen mental health. If you have any questions about the student assembly and/or parent event, please contact Assistant Superintendent Trudy Gross at 408-522-2203 OR trudy_gross@fuhsd.org

Estimados padres,

Over the past few years, a disparity has developed in the alpha-group breakdowns for Guidance Counselors.  In order to accommodate this difference, the below breakdowns will be effective immediately:

Guidance Counselor New Alpha Breakdown
Marisa Amezquita A - F
Nicole Deatherage G - Li
Wilma Wu Lj - R
Leslie Ogawa-Boon S - Z

While not all students are affected, our Guidance Counselors have been collaborating and will continue to do so for a smooth transition for those students moving Guidance Counselors.

Attention all bikers entering campus from the student parking lot side. Due to construction, you will no longer be able to access the bike racks from the access road. You need to enter campus through the student parking lot entrance at Homestead and Kennewick. Ride directly back to the sidewalk adjacent to the tennis courts and walk your bikes from there to the bike rack. We will be working to make a more permanent path, but in the mean time, please pay attention to staff and signs.

In recognition of the critical role that communication, transparency and accessibility play in the relationship between the Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) Board of Trustees and the parents, families and community members that reside in FUHSD, the Board will be piloting an Office Hours program over the course of the next year, beginning May 2017. It is our belief that regular, open-door meetings and dialogue between the Board and members of the community will help continue to strengthen positive communication and trust between the District and the students, families and residents that it serves.

You are invited to attend our first Board Office Hours session on Tuesday, May 9 at Lynbrook High School from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This new program will provide community members with the opportunity to find out more about the work of the Board and District, ask questions and provide valuable feedback. Trustees Jeff Moe and Roy Rocklin will be in attendance at this first Board Office Hours session. Please view the attached flyer for more details, or visit www.fuhsd.org/boardofficehours.
